Overview
Cells can be frozen in several ways in Forecast Editors. Frozen cells cannot be amended or edited either manually, or as a result of updating totals or applying calculations. This is particularly useful when updating a set of data, knowing that some values can no longer be modified.
Any combination of cells may be selected for locking as selected cells do not have to be contiguous.
Cells may also be unlocked, but you may not unlock cells corresponding to periods which have been locked via Data File Manger for the files concerned, nor may you unlock cells outside the selected periods on the Customer File selection screen.
Freezing / Un-Freezing Cells
To freeze a set of cells:
- Select the cells required
- Select Data > Freeze cells
To unfreeze a set of cells:
- Select the cells required
- Select Data > UnFreeze cells
Colour Scheme
- Cells that have been manually locked are shown shaded in cyan.
- Cells that that have been partially locked via Data File Manager are also shown shaded in cyan.
- All cells for files that have been fully locked via Data File Manager are shown in blue text.
Example
In the example below, cells for January - May for the first 4 items below have been frozen. This means that when the annual total is changed, these cells will not change.
In the example below, the annual total for the product group Cleareze Tabs has been changed from 1,029,415 to 1,100,000. All unlocked cells are automatically recalculated on a pro rata basis (based upon original values), in order to obtain the desired new annual total.
Freezing Non-Contiguous Cells
As well as freezing blocks of cells such as for a month or a particular product, you can also freeze cells that are non-contiguous (i.e. not next to each other).
Non-contiguous cells can be selected at the same time as groups of cells by holding down the CTRL button and selecting.
This would be useful for freezing a specific month where a specific product is going to cause an anomaly in the general forecast trend. This will stop you from editing this cell while working on other parts of the report.
Fully Locked Cells
Cells can only be fully locked using the Fully Locked selection under a file's status in Data File Manager.
In reports this will be shown by the text being blue rather than the normal black.
