Overview
Classification Variables are variables stored in IFP which help to classify each Item. Each Classification Variable has a set of values, depending upon its type.
Classification Variables can come in many types (the most common being List, shown below) and each variable must be limited to a specific character length (e.g. every value listed under a Variable with a length of 4 will always have a code with a maximum of 4 characters).
Several Classification Variables are often combined to create the unique Item Code for each Item, stored in Item Codes Maintenance.
A list of existing Classification Variables can be found in Codes Maintenance > Item Codes Classification Variables Maintenance. To view the Values stored under each Classification Variable, simply double-click the variable (or select the variable and click Properties), and then click Edit Values:
For information on how to edit Classification Variable Values, see Maintaining Classification Variable Codes and Descriptions.
Adding a new Classification Variable
Note: Only Local or Regional Administrators should add a new Classification Variable to IFP.
