The General tab of the Report Definition Editor allows you set the Report Definition's name, select the classification variable(s) it will be based on and add any notes.
Report Definition Name
Give the Report Definition a suitable name that will reflect the definition being created. Here we are looking at a report based on the customer, so a suitable name would be Analysis by Customer.
Classification Variable(s)
Choose the Classification Variable(s) which will be included in the report. You can choose any number of variables here:
- If you choose none, lines must be item code-based and reports will be produced at the base level of detail
- If you choose one variable, the report is created at that level of detail
- If you choose two or more variables, the report is created at a combined level of detail.
Most commonly, only one Classification Variable is used. As we are interested in creating a report based on Customer, this is the only variable that needs to be selected.
File Type
This is only usually set to the Standard sales/cost of sales report option.
Notes
Notes should be entered in the bottom panel to provide information on how to use the Report Definition.
Creating Line Definitions
Select the Line Definitions tab to create Line Definitions.
