This topic is for those using IFP 3.4.0 and later. Those using IFP 3.3.9 or earlier should see How to Reset Another User's Password.
This topic is intended for Administrators only.
As part of an IFP Administrator’s responsibilities, you may occasionally be asked by other users to help them reset their password. IFP users can generally reset their own passwords, but there are circumstances where they may need assistance, e.g. they don’t have a verified email address on their account.
Passwords are reset using a temporary password. The user can log in with the temporary password and must then change the password before access is granted to IFP.
IFP can send a temporary password by email, or you can send it manually.
Sending a Temporary Password via IFP
A temporary password can be sent as long as the user has a validated email address in their Account Details. To send a temporary password:
- From IFP Home select Databases/Files > Database Manager
- Select the Organisational Unit (OU) the user is part of, e.g. Normal Users
- Select the user and on the toolbar click Properties
- Select Reset Password…
- Check the Send temporary password via email option and click Reset
Note: If Send temporary password via email is disabled, the code will need to be sent manually. - You will receive a message that a Temporary password was sent to [Users Email Address].
The user will then receive an email with a temporary password allowing them to login into IFP and set a new password.
Sending a Temporary Password Manually
This is required when a user has not added an email address to their Account Details and can’t receive an automated email. This will also be required if a user is not set to receive automated emails from IFP. To generate a temporary password to send:
- From IFP Home select Databases/Files > Database Manager
- Select the Organisational Unit (OU) the user is part of, e.g. Normal Users
- Select the user and on the toolbar click Properties
- Select Reset Password…
- As above, the Send temporary password via email box will be unavailable, click Reset.
- A temporary password is generated. Show or copy this and send to the user.
The user will then be able to use this temporary password to login to IFP and set a new password.
